Subject: Information letter offer exercise program Are you going on Writing Safari?
Delft, January 2026
Dear parent(s)/caregiver(s),
"Writing is no longer important in this digital world, is it?"
Writing is still very important. When children learn to write, they make important connections in their brains. It's not just about letters, but also about moving, looking and thinking at the same time. In group 3, the foundation for writing is laid; a difficult skill that requires a lot of practice. In group 4, the speed increases and writing is linked even more to language skills; a double task.
Why are you receiving this letter?
Every year, De Eglantier looks at the development of the basic skills needed to learn to write and the development of the oldest preschoolers and children in groups 3 and 4. In the classroom, teachers sometimes see that children still hold the pencil tightly, have difficulty sitting properly or find the way of letters difficult.
It has been noted in class that your child could use some extra practice in skills that are important when learning to write. With this letter we would like to inform you about an appropriate and effective exercise program that can support your child in this.
How does the program work?
To support the right basic skills, school works together with Tamara Vreeburg, pediatric occupational therapist at practice Ik BeTeken. Research shows that children learn new skills best with short and focused exercises in the task. That is why the program Are you going on Writing Safari is used: a fun and practical practice program in which these skills are practiced playfully. School and the pediatric occupational therapist work together for eight weeks so that children can develop at their own pace and with confidence.
Purpose of the program
The goal is that your child:
- Will write with more ease and confidence;
- Learns to write the letters that he finds difficult better;
- Features a functional pen grip and sitting position;
- Can perform writing movements more smoothly;
- Experiences (more) fun and motivation in paper and pentaken.
Design of the program
The program lasts eight weeks and consists of at least two practice moments per week:
- In class with the pediatric occupational therapist (45 minutes during a writing lesson)
- In class with the teacher (30-45 minutes during a work moment)
Option: home program with fun practice games.
In addition to paper and pen activities that stimulate fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination and motor planning are playfully offered.
- What can you do if you want to register your child for this program?
- You register your child below with Ergotherapiepraktijk Ik BeTeken;
- You attend one of the information moments on Wednesday 28 or Friday 30 January (see below);
Costs:
