Subject: Information letter offer exercise program From Paw Print to Pen stroke
Delft, January 2026
Dear parent(s)/caregiver(s),
"Writing is no longer important in this digital world, is it?"
Writing is still very important. When children learn to write, they make important connections in their brains. It's not just about letters, but also about moving, looking and thinking at the same time. This basic starts with preschoolers and later helps with reading, spelling and learning at school.
Why are you receiving this letter?
Every year, the Eglantier looks at the development of the basic skills needed to learn to write among the oldest preschoolers. In the classroom, teachers sometimes see that children still hold the pencil tightly, have difficulty sitting properly or cannot yet move the pencil smoothly over the paper.
It has been noted in class that your child could use some extra practice in skills that are important for learning to write. With this letter we would like to inform you about an appropriate and effective exercise program that can support your child in this.
How does the program work?
To support the right basic skills, school works together with Tamara Vreeburg, pediatric occupational therapist at practice Ik BeTeken. Research shows that children learn new skills best with short and focused exercises in the task. That is why the program from Pawprint to Penstroke is used: a fun and practical exercise program in which these skills are practiced playfully. Parents, school and pediatric occupational therapist work together for ten weeks so that children can develop at their own pace and with confidence.
Purpose of the program
The goal is that your child:
- Starts writing education in group 3 with more ease and confidence;
- Features a functional pen grip and sitting position;
- Can perform writing movements more smoothly;
- Experiences (more) fun and motivation in paper and pentaken.
Design of the program
The program lasts ten weeks and consists of three practice moments per week:
- In class with the pediatric occupational therapist (45 minutes during a play/work lesson)
- In class with the teacher (30-45 minutes during a play/work lesson)
- At home with you as a parent/caregiver (about 15 minutes per week)
In addition to paper and pentacs, activities that stimulate fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination and motor planning are playfully offered.
What can you do if you want to register your child for this program?
- You register your child below at Ergotherapiepraktijk Ik BeTeken
- You will attend one of the information moments on Wednesday 28 or Friday 30 January (see below)
- You practice with your child for about 15 minutes a week during the program at home
Costs:
There is an indication for occupational therapy, so it is reimbursed by the insurance. Occupational therapy is reimbursed for 10 hours by default from basic insurance in the Netherlands (8 hours will be required). If you have already received occupational therapy this year, there may be fewer hours available. You are responsible for this yourself and can check this with your insurance.,
The program includes all materials, both for school and for you (bag, folder, worksheets, exercise material). You don't have to buy anything. If you would like material advice for home, this can be indicated.
Register your child no later than Monday 26 January
The program starts on Monday 2 March and lasts until Monday 22 June due to the holidays and days off in between.
I hope I have informed you sufficiently.
If you have any questions in response to this letter, I can be reached by phone at 06 123 67 567 or via info@ik-beteken.nl.
Kind regards,
Tamara Vreeburg
